He is co-author of the first edition of Frommer's China and has reported on various topics from North Korean refugees in Manchuria to strip mining in southern India for newspapers and other publications in the US and Asia. He is very close to earning master's degrees in journalism and Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He splits time between Beijing and Oakland, with occasional trips to his childhood home in Utah.
